Why
buy a Thunderstruck puppy????
We are here to ensure that you
receive the highest quality puppy with the healthiest
start possible. Not only have we bought our own
puppies out of proven stock, but we have continued
that tradition by actively training our dogs and
competing/testing/ hunting with them.
We are active constantly in social,
as well as working situations, with all of our
dogs, so we are able to constantly assess their
personalities and abilities. We use this knowledge
when breeding, rather than just their pedigrees.
We have a limited number of litters from each
of our females because our dogs are not just used
for breeding.
We have benefitted from breeders
before us that have developed methods which have
sent puppies to our home that immediately fit
into our family and are eager to learn. Because
we have had this experience first hand, we value
that when sending a puppy to your home. When a
confident, friendly, lovable, crazy-to-retrieve
puppy arrives the first day and acts like it has
never known anything different, it is an amazing
experience! You will know that it has the start
it needs to become a well-adjusted adult dog that
you can enjoy for years.
We will make sure
your puppy has socialization every day, has been
introduced to birds and retrieving, and learns how
to play. We want it to be ready to become a part
of your family. We also know the value of health
clearances and DNA testing. Our puppy warranty is
our guarantee that you will have a healthy companion.
We have a 26-month guarantee (hip, elbow, eye, thyroid
and cardiac) since some of the final clearances
can not be done until 2 years of age. For your own
reference, these are the testing ages:
Any age--Eyes and
DNA testing for prcd-PRA, PRA1, PRA 2, Ichthyosis,
NCL, etc.
12 months--Cardiac
and Thyroid clearances
24 months--Hip

We specialize in competitive field
and hunt test Golden Retrievers and our dogs performance
and pedigrees support that. The Golden Retriever
puppies we produce are ready to learn. With our
socialization program you will be getting a puppy
that is immediately eager to become a part of
your family. We are also very cognizant of health
clearances and DNA testing to ensure that we are
producing strong, healthy pups.

The puppy price reflects the
quality of breeding; the resources we have
invested in training, trialing, and testing
our dogs; our continual attention to health
clearances; and improvement of our breeding
stock. Our Golden puppies sell for $3500-$4000
depending on the breeding and puppy potential.
We strive for quality and carefully select
our breedings. We will do our best to steer
you to the breeding that will best meet your
needs.
Because of the various characteristics
and genetics of our dogs, our breedings are
geared towards all-purpose dogs that will
perform in a variety of venues: competition,
testing, hunting, and pets. As your puppy
grows, we are here to help you along the way
and answer any questions as they arise. We
require a deposit of $300 to reserve puppies
in advance of whelping and to ensure you are
on the final list. (The deposit goes toward
the puppy price). Call or email with any questions.
The puppies
we sell are AKC registered with the "Thunderstruck"
prefix. Puppies are sold under limited registration
until buyers have proof of health clearances
for hip, elbow, heart, and eyes, at which time
full registration will be transferred at no
additional cost from Thunderstruck Retrievers.
Getting
Your Puppy
We prefer if
you are able to come to Thunderstruck Retrievers
when taking your puppy home so that we are
able to go through information with you. We
do understand that sometimes this is not an
option for some buyers because of distance
and timing. For an additional cost of $100
(292 miles round trip), we will take the
puppy to the Minneapolis airport to meet you
if you choose to fly the puppy back in a carry-on
crate with you. We are not able to ship puppies
in cargo at this time.
